RED LIGHT THERAPY

WHAT IS RED LIGHT THERAPY

Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of red, near-infrared, and blue light to support the body's natural recovery, repair, and overall wellness.

Unlike many systems that use just a few red and near-infrared wavelengths, our treatments also incorporate blue light with 6 RED/NIR frequencies totaling 7 wavelengths, allowing us to support both deeper tissues and the surface of the skin within the appropriate treatment protocols.

When red and near-infrared light are absorbed by the mitochondria—the energy-producing structures within your cells—they stimulate the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the body's primary source of cellular energy. With more energy available, cells are better able to perform their normal functions, including repair, regeneration, recovery, and maintaining healthy tissue.

Red and near-infrared light also support healthy circulation and lymphatic function. Healthy circulation delivers oxygen and nutrients throughout the body, while the lymphatic system helps remove excess fluid, cellular waste, and metabolic byproducts from tissues. Together, these processes help create an environment that supports recovery, tissue repair, and healthy cellular function.

Blue light works differently. Rather than penetrating deeply into the body, it primarily interacts with the surface of the skin, where it helps reduce acne-causing bacteria and supports clearer, healthier-looking skin. When combined with red and near-infrared light, it provides a more complete approach to skin-focused treatments.

Unlike ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun, the therapeutic wavelengths used during treatment do not tan the skin or cause sunburn.

Below, you'll find information on each treatment protocol, session options, potential benefits, safety considerations, and what to expect during your visit.

Treatment Protocols

Each protocol is designed with a specific goal in mind. Treatment protocols vary by session length, light intensity, treatment distance, and wavelength combination to best support the intended outcome. Some protocols are designed for deeper tissues, while others focus on skin health, relaxation, recovery, or sleep support.

Deep Tissue

Designed to support deeper muscles and connective tissues by increasing cellular energy production, supporting healthy circulation and lymphatic function, and promoting the body's natural repair processes.

Recommended Treatment Time - 15 minutes per side

Anti-Aging

Designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production, helping improve skin firmness, elasticity, texture, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Recommended Treatment Time - 10 minutes per side

Skin Repair

Designed to support the skin's natural repair processes by encouraging healthy cell renewal. Red and near-infrared light support tissue repair, while blue light supports clearer skin by helping reduce acne-causing bacteria on the skin's surface.

Recommended Treatment Time - 15 minutes per side

Sleep Support

Designed to promote deeper, more restorative sleep using a protocol with gradually decreasing light intensity throughout the session. Photobiomodulation supports healthy sleep regulation, and clinical studies have demonstrated improvements in sleep quality and symptoms of chronic insomnia.

Recommended Treatment Time - 30-minute protocol

Mood & Wellness

Designed to promote relaxation and mental well-being by supporting healthy brain energy metabolism, cerebral blood flow, and normal neurotransmitter activity, helping encourage a calmer state and an improved sense of well-being.

Recommended Treatment Time -15-minute protocol

Safety & Contraindications

Red light therapy is well tolerated by most people, but treatment is not appropriate for everyone all the time.

Do not receive treatment if you:

Are pregnant.

Have an open wound.

Have an active hemorrhage or uncontrolled bleeding.

Are unable to communicate excessive heat or discomfort during treatment.

Medical clearance may be required if you:

Are currently undergoing cancer treatment.

Have recently had surgery.

Have recently received steroid injections in the treatment area.

Take medications that increase sensitivity to light.

Treatment Modifications

Hyperpigmentation or melasma is treated using red wavelengths only.

Treatment settings may be adjusted based on your skin type or medical history.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Relax comfortably on a massage table while the treatment is performed.

Protective eyewear will be provided and should be worn throughout your session.

Depending on the treatment protocol, the light may be positioned at different distances and use different wavelength combinations.

Most people experience gentle warmth, but the treatment should remain comfortable.

There is no downtime, and you can return to your normal daily activities immediately after your session.

For best results, multiple sessions are often recommended, depending on your treatment goals.
